Overview of Textile Industry

Pakistan is the 8th largest textile manufacturer in Asia, the contribution to the country's GDP is 8.5 percent. The textile industry of Pakistan employs 45 percent of the total labor force - out of which 38 percent are manufacturing workers.

Textile Industry

The textile exports has rose by nine percent to USD 13. 53 billion in the year 2018 in comparison to the year 2017 which was USD 12.45 billion. The growth was mainly because of the higher volumes sold last year.

Knitwear exports has increased by 15.2 percent to USD 2.719 billion in the years 2017 and 2018. The bed wear exports took a leap by 5.8 percent to USD 2.3 billion. Readymade garments exports rose by USD 2.6 billion which is a substantial increase that is 11.22 percent.

Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of cotton. After China and India, Pakistan is the third largest spinning capacity in Asia that contributes 5 percent to the global spinning capacity. As of today there are approximately 1,222 ginning units, 443 spinning units, 125 large spinning units and 426 small units that are producing textiles.
